Dwight D. Eisenhower


Dwight D. Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890, in Denison, Texas. His parents were David Jacob Eisenhower and Ida Elizabeth Stover Eisenhower. He moved to Kansas when he was only one year old. Dwight was the third of his parents seven kids.

Eisenhower earned the highest rank you can be in the military. He was the supreme commander of europe forces during WWII. “As the top commander he planned the Invasion of Normandy, also called D-Day.A few years after World War II ended, in 1948, Dwight retired from the army. He first worked as president of Columbia University and then as commander of the NATO forces in Europe.

He became president January 20, 1953. Some of his presidential accomplishments include. “He Sponsored and Signed the Civil Rights Bill of 1957.”He Signed the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956.This gave birth to America's interstate highway system. “Eisenhower worked hard to get the bill passed and it was his favorite piece of legislation.

The Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum and Home is the presidential library, museum in Abilene Kansas.
