Who was Carrie Nation?

She was born in Kentucky in 1846, Carrie Nation moved to western Missouri with her family when she was nine. There she met and married her first husband, who died from being drunk all the time after just two years. Carrie started teaching to support herself and her daughter. Soon she got remarried`.

Carrie Nation was a 6 foot tall old woman that went around and just totally smashed and ruined bars. She would not kill people but use a piece of wood with long nails and just smash everything in the bar. She went to jail many many times from doing this. “In 1900, the target of Nation's wrath was alcoholic drink.”

“Prohibition in the United States was a nationwide constitutional ban on the sale, production, importation, and transportation of alcoholic beverages that remained in place from 1920 to 1933.” It was a time characterized by speakeasies, glamour, and gangsters and a period of time in which even the average citizen broke the law. Before the 18th Amendment was confirmed, about 65 percent of the country had already banned alcohol.

Kansas had statewide Prohibition from 1881 to 1948. Longer than any other state, and continued to prohibit general liquor sales until 1987. As of December 2012, Kansas had 13 dry counties, where on-premises liquor sales are prohibited.. Drugs are prohibited in almost all of the United States, Kansas included.
